Dave Chose, formerly part of the now-dissolved folk-punk trio Faudrait faire la vaisselle, has been working on his solo project over the past year, with the help of members from Galaxie and PONI. The Montrealer-via-Lac-St-Jean, and competitor in the 21st Francouvertes, is gearing up to release his debut album soon. He combines his folk-based music with sprawling, grimey guitar fuzz and his own crass, vibrant lyrics.

Today, Dave Chose releases the lead single off his debut album, due out in spring 2018 via Bonsound. Chez Françoise is a love song set in an asphalt-grey world full of beauty, hidden by urban wounds and scars. It’s a crude song that wants to be upbeat, explains Dave. It tries to glorify the spontaneity and candour of first encounters, those bits and pieces of normal life that can turn darkness into light, winter into summer, clouds into sunshine.

A sucker for anything magnificently banal, like the taste of iced tea from the corner store, or the pleasure of rolling his own cigarettes, Dave Chose breathes life into his music with a generous vocabulary hailing from everywhere between his hometown of L’Ascension-De-Notre-Seigneur and the Montreal neighbourhood Hochelaga-Maisonneuve. His lyrics tell stories with a certain urban sensibility, examining common events and making them extraordinary. The songs are without any excess. They are passionate and immediate, a continuous ode to the poetry of all things lacking poetry.
