Five years after Junior, their third effort which received praise from Paste, Bandcamp Daily, KEXP, CBC Music, Brooklyn Vegan and many others, Corridor returns with Mimi, a new album with a sound and style that's more expansive and open than anything that preceded it. Mimi will be released on Bonsound (Canada) and Sub Pop (rest of the world) on April 26th 2024. To mark the occasion, the Montreal-based band unveils the single Mourir Demain, a first taste of their upcoming record.

Mourir Demain is available on all music services.

Over bright, chiming guitars and ascending synths, Robert addresses his looming mortality on Mourir Demain. I wrote it when my girlfriend and I were shopping for life insurance, reveals Jonathan Robert, Corridor’s vocalist and guitarist. With our little daughter growing up, we also considered making our will. I said to myself, ‘Oh shit, from now on I’m slowly starting to plan my death.

The band - made up of Jonathan Robert (vocalist and guitarist), Dominic Berthiaume (vocalist and bassist) , Julien Bakvis (drummer) and Samuel Gougoux (multi-instrumentalist) - will be going on tour this spring. Highlights include stops in Mexico City for the Pitchfork Music Festival, Los Angeles and Austin, Texas for SXSW. On October 4th at Le National, Corridor will present their first Montreal show since 2021.

Following the release of Junior in 2019, Mimi, is a huge step forward for the band, whose members themselves have undergone the type of personal changes that accompany the passage of time. These eight songs reflect a newfound and contemplative maturity, as Corridor is branching out more than ever with music that’s richly detailed, resulting in a record that feels like a fresh break for a band that’s already established themselves as forward-thinkers.

Mimi immediately recalls the best of the best when it comes to indie rock—Deerhunter’s silvery atmospherics immediately come to mind, as well as the spiky effervescence of classic post-punk—but despite these easy comparisons, Corridor remains impossible to pin down from song to song, which makes Mimi all the more thrilling as a listen.
