Three years after the release of his third album °1, Champion returns in full force this spring. This self-produced album is vibrant, festive, and sure to make you smile and dance. Like his previous projects, this latest ouvre celebrates life. It’s my main muse, the artist explains. It brings me love, neutrality and nonconformity.
On Best Seller, Champion reconnects with his early musical tastes and pulls us into the wide universe of his music, where electric guitars, huge beats and amazing blues voices all merge together. This collection of songs is eclectic; Money Money Money (& Best Seller) flirts with electronic music, What a Life is supported by a heavy guitar riff, and Claustrophobic totally embraces the pop genre.
After Betty Bonifassi and Pilou, it’s now singer Lou Laurence’s turn to bring life to Champion’s music. Marie-Christine Depestre also collaborated on this new album, along with Anna Frances Meyer (Les Deuxluxes) who sings on Boy Toy.
The title Best Seller is a cheeky nod to the music industry’s continuously declining record sales, and it symbolizes Champion’s motto in 2016; to do it for the hell of it and not take himself too seriously.
Over the past few years, Champion has become a solid performer and one of the most original artists on the music scene. He will hit the road this summer to perform at many festivals, including the Montreal International Jazz Festival on June 30th at Club Soda. Tickets are on sale now. More dates will soon be announced.
