Following the release of the most significant work in Elisapie ’s career, The Ballad of the Runaway Girl, the singer-songwriter presents a video for the song Arnaq, an ode to women. A heartfelt appeal for the respect of femininity in all its forms. A perfect blend between soft vocals and musical animality. In this third video directed by Jonathan Brisebois, Elisapie takes to the stage her daily life in her home village of Salluit, in Nunavik, a community of 1400 people located in the most northern area of Arctic Québec. This audiovisual work is practically a documentary. Powerful and poignant, the video presents characters willing to show their everyday lives to illustrate one of the most accomplished song from her latest, The Ballad of the Runaway Girl. We discover in it the vastness of the tundra, the weight of tradition and the strength of women through simple and authentic portraits.

Watch and share the video for Arnaq via YouTube.

The album The Ballad of the Runaway Girl is available in stores and on all music services. Elisapie will be heading off to Europe for a series of shows including dates in Paris and Barcelona.

The Ballad of the Runaway Girl is a poetic endeavor driven by urgency, doubt, gentleness and sensitivity. It’s a fully assumed work that embeds itself in life; an artistic manifesto that erases the desire to escape. Co-produced by Elisapie, Joe Grass and Paul Evans, the album was mostly recorded live in a lakeside chalet with Robbie Kuster (Patrick Watson) and Nicolas Basque (Plants and Animals). Other precious collaborators added their touch to this monument: Leif Vollebekk, Joe Jarmush (Suuns), Jason Sharp, Natasha Kanapé-Fontaine, Chloé Lacasse and Howie Beck (mixing).

Ballad Of The Runaway Girl benefits from the loose-limbed confidence of the fantastic musicians Elisapie has assembled. Together they’ve created a powerful record, and a rare album where both the music and narrative are equally stunning. 4/5

(…) l’album et le concert présentent ses oeuvres les plus incarnées.

Alain Brunet, La Presse

You can hear the emotional complexity immediately, with opening track Arnaq pairing ominous percussion with squealing electric guitars and vocal crescendos. 9/10
