Following the release of their celebrated album Renegade Breakdown via Bonsound (Canada) and Ninja Tune (rest of world) in September 2020, Marie Davidson & L'Œil Nu have announced the first in a series of remixes to be drawn from the project, from Jlin, Young Marco and Morgan Geist.

First up is a remix of C’est parce que j'm’en fous from Jlin, a singular electronic producer who has collaborated with the likes of Björk, Holly Herndon, Ben Frost, and William Basinski over the course of several acclaimed albums released on English record label Planet Mu. Today, she delivers a muscular, rhythmic take on Marie Davidson & L’Œil Nu’s song.

We’ve all been appreciators of Jlin’s work in the band, and it’s a huge honour to have her remixing our music. “C’est parce que j'm’en fous” is a track that talks about the concepts of femininity and feminism as opposed to calculated feminism, and I could not have wished for a better remixer. Thank you Jlin for this killer track! - Marie Davidson

Listen to Jlin's remix of C’est parce que j'm’en fous, available on all music services.
Renegade Breakdown is available on vinyl and digital format.

The trio, formed of three old-time friends and long-term collaborators: Marie Davidson, Pierre Guerineau and Asaël R. Robitaille, is also announcing a special one-off livestream. Shot by filmmaker Denis Côté, the livestream will be broadcast on March 11th via Noon Chorus. Tickets are available here.

It is a refreshing novelty in my career to be approached to film such a freeform concert. For the concept, I imagined the performance as a laboratory experiment. Without completely turning my back on the festive aspects, I favored something a little colder, which leads to a certain purity of the act of watching a concert. - Denis Côté

Renegade Breakdown Live is first and foremost a film, Denis Côté’s vision. Without ever directing us, he captured our first ever performance as a band, exploring the possibilities of what a filmed live show could be in 2021. Even if we are at the center of it, the surroundings, the crew, the audience, the gear and the mishaps are an equally important part of it, creating a unique document and experience for the viewer. The end result is as eerie and honest as it can get. - Marie Davidson & L’Œil Nu

Renegade Breakdown is a bold reimagining of Marie Davidson’s sound, and was praised widely by the likes of The Guardian, Pitchfork and The New Yorker, with Bandcamp listing it as one of their “Best Albums of Summer” and additional support from FADER, Billboard, DAZED, Vulture, NME and many more. Most recently the band released their cinematic video for Back To Rock.
