After releasing Mourir Demain in January, Corridor returns with Mon Argent, the second single off their upcoming album Mimi, due out on April 26th, 2024 via Bonsound (Canada) and Sub Pop (rest of the world). Along with this new song, the Montreal-based band announces Europe and UK tour dates.
Mixing Corridor's signature jangly guitars with a mid-fi scattered synth that evokes the new sounds of Mimi, Mon Argent addresses the precarious nature of money with a humorous undertone and lively melody. More precisely, Mon Argent delves into the perplexities of earning a living in the music industry and follows the anti-rock and roll themes found on the band’s upcoming record. Being a musician, there's nothing more abstract, insecure and random than the money-making aspect of this career, explains singer and guitarist Jonathan Robert.
This song is accompanied by a hypnotic visualizer created by Jonathan Robert, adorned by a Lite Brite, falling pennies and other eccentric trinkets.
Following the release of Junior in 2019, Mimi is a huge step forward for the band, whose members themselves have undergone the type of personal changes that accompany the passage of time. These eight songs reflect a newfound and contemplative maturity, as Corridor is branching out more than ever with music that’s richly detailed, resulting in a record that feels like a fresh break for a band that’s already established themselves as forward-thinkers.
Mimi is available for pre-order on vinyl or for pre-save on all music services.
Corridor’s Mimi—which, fun fact, is also named after Jonathan’s cat—is a record about “getting older” and “figuring out new parts of life”—but despite any claims of transitional growing pains from the band, Mimi is bursting with new energy and life. The band expands on the sounds of Junior and delivers an album with a distinct rhythmic pulse reminiscent of post-punk’s own classic era of melding dance and rock textures.
Corridor’s 2024 tour will begin this Saturday, March 9th at Pitchfork Music Festival Mexico City and currently ends October 4th with a hometown show in Montreal at Le National. New highlights include a short UK/EU run in May and a tour of France in November. The band will also appear at SXSW in March. More dates will be announced soon.
