Following the release of singles Focus, 21 Grammes and Qui d'Autre, Joe Rocca announces Hybride, his sophomore solo album due out on vinyl and digital format on May 24th via Bonsound. In addition, the rapper unveils Amours et Contradictions, a sensual ballad on which he teams up with R&B singer Malia Laura.
Pre-order / pre-save Hybride now.
On Amours et Contradictions, Joe Rocca describes the fear of commitment generated by the confusing seduction games of modern dating. He struggles to hold back his passion for a seemingly emotionally distant love interest, while Malia’s verse suggests his feelings are very much reciprocated. Produced by Worry, JMF and Félix Petit, the song’s laid-back beat combines trap-like stuttering hi-hats, airy synths and deep basslines. Once again, Joe demonstrates his versatility with this contemporary R&B track, on which his distinctive voice and flow feels right at home.

Released in January, Focus / 21 Grammes marked Joe Rocca's return after a six-year absence. The double single caught the attention of several Quebec media outlets, such as ICI Musique, ICI Première, TVA, Noovo, Radio-Canada, La Presse and Le Journal de Montréal. This summer, Joe will be performing at La Noce (Chicoutimi, July 6th) and Festival d'été de Québec (July 11th). More tour dates to be announced soon.
About Hybride
Hybride is a duality: it’s the rapper turned singer, the teenager grown adult, the devoted partner who also wants to be a lover. Joe Rocca's second solo album brings together dreamy R&B, cloud rap, synth funk and sophisticated pop. Most importantly, Hybride is one of the most versatile rap albums ever released in Quebec. Accompanied by producers and musicians Félix Petit (Les Louanges, Hubert Lenoir, etc.), Jean-Michel Frédéric (Dominique Fils-Aimé, Loud, KNLO, etc.) and Worry (Greg Beaudin, Yuki Dreams Again, etc.), the Dead Obies co-founder reveals himself as a complete artist, a sophisticated rapper, a conceptual singer, an intelligent and sensual young man.
About Joe Rocca
Joe Rocca is back and stronger than ever after taking some time to redefine his work and develop a well-rounded, introspective concept. The co-founder of Dead Obies re-emerges as a unique artist, bridging the gaps between pop, rap, funk, soul and R&B. With his first solo album French Kiss (2017) and extensive experience with Dead Obies under his belt, the young man, freshly into his thirties, demonstrates a rare musical maturity for his age. This shines through in the humility and authenticity of his lyrics, which deal with love, relationships and self-reflection.
